Memoir, a Noun: Voices from Youth in the Juvenile Justice System

Current Issue
Volume 3:  Stunt as a Bumble Bee
Single Issue: $3

I remember the time when you was strong and healthy,
dressed to impress, but also stunt as a bumble bee.
Giving me life, learning, lecture
so I could think about my future.
But as days, months, years go by,
you started feeling weak.
Then ended up getting sick.
Then sicker.
That’s when reality hit me.

–Excerpt from the poem “First I Cry” written by Ulala

Volume 2:  While I Bleed in This Page
Single Issue: $3

My life used to be good.  I don’t know what happened, just every one
started dying and people started lying, and I just keep all my anger
trapped inside me like a Siberian tiger in a cage, just wanting for
somebody to let me out so I can bounce on my prey.

I refuse to be at the bottom o’ the food chain, so I just lay low not
because of fear but just to get a better aim, I’m just in this cage waiting…

–Excerpt from an untitled poem written by Young Fee

Volume 1:  Keep My Shine
Single Issue: $3

Memoir…
A noun, an autobiography, an account
of something noteworthy.
Memorabilia…
A noun, something worthy of remembrance.
My experience in juvenile hall…
A verb, fast paced, consistent, repetitive.
On-going.
Depressing, when surrounded by a group of guys who do not have
the same purpose
in life as you…
to succeed…

Excerpt from the poem “Memoir” written by Dante
